A 100 N force is applied over an area of 2 m². What pressure results?

Tip: Smaller area, same force, means higher pressure. This is why a sharp knife or a stiletto heel concentrates force into a tiny area to cut or dent, while a snowshoe spreads weight over a large area to avoid sinking.
Common mix-ups
- Confusing pressure with force. Force alone doesn't determine damage or effect — the area it's spread over matters just as much, via P = F/A.
- Forgetting area must be positive. A zero or negative area has no physical meaning here.
- Mixing pressure units. Pascals, psi, atmospheres, and bar are all different pressure units — convert to Pa before comparing or combining values.
